Guilty Gear Strive Inspired Layered
Type Design

This project was to create a concept for a layered font. Slash is inspired by Arc System Works America Inc’s video game, Guilty Gear Strive. The name Slash comes from the end scene after a character defeats another character.

It takes inspiration from Gothic manuscript blackletter fonts since the video game has imagery inspired by Catholicism and churches but brings it into the contemporary world.

Type Design

This font is sharp, dynamic, and mimics the movement of fighting. This base layer is bold, sturdy, and strong to show the fortitude of the players. The gear layer, is inspired by the name of the series, Guilty Gear. The gears have pulleys that connect them to reinforce the structure of the base layer letters. They can also be used as stand-alone graphic assets.
