Your blood
is made of
Tannic Acid
Personal ProjectMy mother told me that my blood is made from tannic acid. Tannic
acid is found in many trees, particularly in the bark of redwood
trees. It keeps them protected from bugs, fungi, and, most
importantly, fire.
We are all born from this Earth and belong in it. Your blood is made from Tannic Acid is a series of seven digital photo collages depicting myself, my sister, and the woods interwoven as one. Without the pressure of performance and other people, the woods feel like peace and the soil feels like home.

Each image is 19in x13in on photo luster paper and arranged in three rows to create one
radial composition of 59in x 39in. Soil from our childhood home lies beneath the images.
This layering of imagery and textures allowed a merging of our identities with each other and with nature. I experimented with illustrative lines on some of the images to further emphasize this idea of connection flowing through identities.
